JN Residence
New York, USA, 2024
From the street, the building is a quiet, weathered presence in West Chelsea. Inside, the home unfolds with unexpected drama—a narrow stair leads to a soaring double-height space framed by views of the street and the High Line. A skylight adds to the rare sense of openness, offering a calm refuge in busy NYC. Designed for a newly married couple who love to gather, the home reveals itself in sequence: a narrow stair leads to a soaring double-height space where volume and calm converge.
What began as a light renovation grew into a full gut transformation—defined by clarity, proportion, and quiet discipline contrasting with the historic shell. The once-enclosed kitchen was opened to become a social heart that balances openness with ease.
Each room carries its own identity through shifts in color and material. Doors closed, spaces feel distinct; open, they flow in harmony.
The result is a home of contrasts and coherence—where compression gives way to release, and everyday life is elevated through simple, deliberate design.
