sa residence
LA, USA, on going
This project explores the transformation of a modest corner unit at the top of a contemporary high-rise into a tranquil urban retreat. The architecture is conceived as a quiet composition of spatial clarity and material restraint—favoring proportion over embellishment, and atmosphere over gesture.
Two previously separate apartments were reconfigured into a single residence, where openness and continuity are counterbalanced by moments of enclosure and stillness. While the plan remains legible and direct, subtle shifts in texture, light, and scale introduce a sense of depth that unfolds gradually.
A palette of semi-filled travertine, wide oak planks, and textured metal establishes a measured rhythm throughout, punctuated by sparing use of veined marble and backlit onyx. At the edge of the bedroom, a shallow reflecting pool—introduced not by brief, but by instinct—offers a moment of pause, recalling the slower rituals of a former home.
The result is a dwelling shaped not by expression, but by edit—an architecture of balance, quiet tension, and lived repose.
