Interior Design I Renovation
Located in a York & Sawyer-designed Beaux-Arts apartment building on the Upper East Side, the brief was to eliminate unnecessary partitions in the main gallery space, while creating a separate armature containing office spaces and a private viewing room which could be closed off at will.
Newly exposed windows were sheathed in warm white solar shading to temper harsh daylight. While the existing gallery lighting fixtures were left as is, the private viewing room provided the opportunity to experiment with a recessed lightbox as a uniform source of overhead lighting. The offices, meanwhile, catered to a mixture of transient desks, small meeting rooms and private work spaces.
